Do you have the following attributes? You could be our new Publishing Editor!
- Proficiency in standard IT packages, including Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrable interest in and commitment to reading, education, and academic publishing.
- Good understanding of the book publication process and industry.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, able to deliver presentations and communicate information clearly and confidently.
- Excellent ability to build positive relationships both internally and externally.
- Ability to work on many projects within tight timelines in a very dynamic environment.
- Ability to identify, advise, and act appropriately on ethical or legal questions relating to publication (e.g., publication misconduct, libel, and copyright).
Here is your new role
- Actively manage editor performance, establish and implement best practices for manuscript submission, peer review process, revision and resubmission policies, and optimal editorial board function, and recruit new editors or replace editors where necessary.
- Actively manage the profitability of the assigned portfolio of book genres with a view to maximizing revenues and regulating costs. Implement activities with other departments and external partners to ensure action is taken where necessary to improve financial performance.
- Provide information and advice to editors and partners to help them improve the quality of published content. Compile and assess key data and metrics and use this data to inform recommendations on each strategy.
- Successfully negotiate editor and society contract renewals, produce profit and loss statements, prepare draft contracts, and lead the contract approval process through to contract signature.
- Participate in editorial board meetings and represent at conferences, where appropriate.
- Liaise with other departments to ensure that the books are produced, marketed, and distributed in an appropriate way and within an acceptable expenditure range.
- Be responsible for handling acquired book titles from contract through publication by coordinating with other departments to ensure necessary actions are completed on time.
- Support colleagues as required with departmental projects and tasks.

- Hybrid working arrangement. In-office presence for 40% of the contracted hours. We work flexibly, and some staff can choose to work from home for up to 60% of their contracted hours.
